The Research Resources Office fulfills a number of functional responsibilities for the Primate Center. The Research Resources branch of the Primate Center was established in 2006 in order to better and more efficiently respond to nonhuman primate research requests from NIH-funded investigators. Its overall goal is to optimize resources, to expedite project initiation (click here for more information), and to streamline the process by which projects proceed. It guides investigators through the process by which access to Center resources is requested, works with them to establish practical experimental designs, develops budgets for the proposed experiments, schedules the many tasks and facilities required for each experiment, collects and distributes samples to investigators through Biomaterials Services, administers the pilot study and research training programs, and manages the affiliate scientist and visiting scientist programs. Research services provided by core laboratories and new technologies developed in the core laboratories are administered by Research Resources through four newly developed scientific focus groups: Infectious Diseases and Biodefense, Chronic Diseases, Development and Aging, and Genomics.
